Yuki Kho talks to Mbuku Kimpala and Jean Kawata, two members of art collective CATPC, about the meaning of their work, which addresses themes such as forced plantation labor and colonialism.
CATPC is an art collective from Lusanga, Congo that creaties art to raise global awareness surrounding topics such as the historical and contemporary position of plantation workers – and how to change this through art. With the proceeds of their work they buy back and restore their depleted land. Their work is this year’s Dutch entry (in collaboration with Renzo Martens) for the Venice Biennale. Some of their work can be seen during the Expedition on Oerol. Our host Yuki Kho talks to CATPC members Mbuku Kimpala and Jean Kawata about the meaning of the work, which addresses themes such as forced plantation labor and colonialism. Through their art they decolonize the plantation.
