Info
“Matatu” is a term for public transport in East Africa: “If you miss one, you catch the next…” That’s Banda Matatu. With this flexible and adaptable attitude, the band brings you Afro-Caribbean grooves that blend genres like afrobeat, chakacha, and afrojazz.
Founders Max Ravanello (trombonist and composer from Italy) and Mike Onyango (trumpeter and vocalist from Kenya) met in the Rotterdam music scene. Together with musicians from all over the world, they form Banda Matatu. Two trombones, a trumpet, a harmonica, an electric guitar, a bass guitar, and drums make up the main lineup. If you miss one, you just catch the next. It’s worth the wait.
