Info
The musical creators’ collective BUI rides the tide for six hours straight. In a marked-off section of the surf, these musicians erect a play area that’s always in motion. Here, wind instruments extended with PVC pipes, lengthy drum rolls, and the murmur of the sea come to life.
As part of Oerol Werkplaats, BUI is developing their piece What are you building in there!? on-site. On the beach by festival hub de Deining you’ll find their improvisation spot, constantly shifting with the tide’s rhythm. For six hours, the musicians hustle on the beach and in the sea: scaffolds are erected and dismantled, melodies sung, and the sounds of wind instruments and drums fill the air. It’s all inspired by the here and now—a celebration of the moment, with the landscape, the audience, and the casual passerby becoming part of it. Lucas Kloosterboer, Mees Siderius, and Elsa van der Linden, who were involved as new creators at the Atelier Lab in Oerol 2023, are connected to Oerol Werkplaats this year. BUI will follow the New Makers program of the Performing Arts Fund until September 2024 under the guidance of Gaudeamus.
