Absurd Hero is a solo circus performance featuring a large, heavy red ball. Slovak juggler and circus artist Roman Škadra places himself in hopeless situations, again and again — testing the limits of both physical and emotional endurance. There is no such thing as success, only persistence in the stubborn attempts to reach it. How long can he keep going?

When have you succeeded? Is failure a state of mind? Can I find joy and happiness in my struggle? If the object doesn’t care whether I win or lose, am I truly winning? Absurd Hero is an elegant fusion of Theatre of the Absurd and circus, laced with Buster Keaton-style humour. A dead-serious drama unfolds between performer and heavy red ball, presenting the circus — in a nod to the philosophy of Camus — as a potentially joyful, yet endlessly futile pursuit.
