You know what it is with fire? Even when it’s almost out, somewhere a spark still smoulders. There’s a pilot light inside us. Sometimes it takes meeting another to ignite that flame. The smallest nudge can spark the greatest movement — a flicker that becomes a blaze, or the wings of a butterfly setting off a storm.
Players and makers from Amsterdam-based youth theatre collective DEGASTEN are spending a weekend at Oerol to explore and experience site-specific theatre. They will attend performances, meet creators, and engage in conversations about the significance of their work on the island. They will explore the meaning of water in their lives and what technology represents in connecting people. Central to their journey is the ongoing question of how collaboration with one’s surroundings can influence creative processes and artistic output.
The study trip will conclude with a short creative process in which the participants will translate their experiences into new material. They are eager to share the outcome with the public.
About DEGASTEN
Everyone deserves the space — time, mind & space — to create and perform. DEGASTEN was born, raised, and matured in Amsterdam, and has spent the last 12 years cultivating a strong foundation for theatre experience and artistic development for young people aged 13 to 31, working in hyper-diverse, composite groups. The strength of DEGASTEN lies in guiding young talent within a deeply personal context that centres on individual perception, co-creation, the meeting of different worlds, and continuous inquiry.
