From their plastic garden chair, Eindhoven’s ‘brabohop collective’ Frino tackles the paving-stone philosophy of everyday life. What is it? A mix of music theatre, Brabant hip-hop, and a good pub yarn — all told in the language of the flamboyant misfits they adore. Think ex-PSV players who interned with Jackie Chan, lovelorn binmen, and disgraced budgie breeders.
You might not catch every word, but you’ll know exactly what they mean. In Kuilkwark, Frino’s ‘brappers’ drag their cast of Eindhoven characters up to Terschelling. They’re left wandering behind the dunes, trying to catch a fish without getting wet, crying into the wind on the phone with their mum in Woensel-West. All their joy and small sorrows are poured into brasons — Brabant-style chansons — that will ring out across the island. Want to know why life’s better on Terschelling than in Eindhoven? Or maybe the other way round? Come and find out. And bring a fat fish while you’re at it.
