With their wooden string instruments, Ragazze Quartet gives trees a musical voice. Their memories — stored in the rings of their trunks — fill the air in a magical world of light and projection. This all-female string quartet gives expression to the trees as silent witnesses of history.
When the members of the Ragazze Quartet set out to trace the origins of their wooden string instruments, they discovered the fascinating world of tree rings. Tree rings are like historical records: they reveal details about the tree’s location, the climate, and the influence of human activity. Accompanied by light projections that evoke the memories of trees, a Wunderkammer emerges—one of pulsing sap flows, communicating fungal threads, and crown shyness—with the wooden instruments as interpreters.
