International band Sirocco creates a groundbreaking sound that fuses the rich traditions of afrobeat, funk and jazz with contemporary influences. From the powerful horn section to the rhythmically compelling rhythm section; every element of Sirocco’s music is infused with an infectious energy that invites you to dance, listen and feel.
Composer and MC Ko Kunst and tenor saxophonist and bandleader Max van Houtum observed that even in modern times, people still divide themselves into tribes. Yet the first truly global culture is beginning to emerge, as the world faces challenges no single nation or group can solve alone. Inspired by philosopher R. Priddy’s “philosophy of unity”, they created Sirocco — a sound that pulls us away from our smartphone screens and draws us together in physical spaces, with the aim of opening our minds to one another. They blend the power and emotion of jazz with the physical force of afrobeat and funk.
