Info
During this literary audio walk, four young writers guide you from the heart of the festival to the beach. Along the way, they share how they experienced the landscape before the bustle of Oerol began. What did they see in the quiet? How many stories did they find in the stillness? What words did they hear in the wind?
You’re a young writer, and you’re on an island. It’s not a holiday. There’s no festival. You stand in the loose sand and look around. Apart from the wind and the gulls, it’s silent. Not a soul in sight. You climb to the top of a dune and gaze, and gaze again. Large grey clouds race through the sky like young wolfhounds. Your hair turns stiff, and your snot tastes of salt. That’s how it is here. That’s the island as it really is. A grain of sand in the North Sea. A grain of sand in your mind. Island, horizon, sea. Take me with you, and I’ll write you down.
Jonge Schrijvers (“Young Writers”) is a writing programme for young people in Friesland, organised by Explore the North and Meeuw jonge theatermakers. Each year, the Jonge Schrijvers create new work especially for Oerol, inspired by the island and/or its inhabitants. This year, the result is a literary audio walk by David Bisschop, Tamar Dicke, Bastiaan Okkema and Rixt Siderius.
