TIDE

The duo TIDE blends cello, kora, and modular synths in genre-crossing sonic explorations. Rooted in classical, African, and electronic music, Julian Tjon Sack Kie and Laurence Gaudreau fuse composition and improvisation in performances across Europe, including Gaudeamus, Uncloud, and Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ.

TIDE builds a bridge between African and Western musical traditions, offering a fresh voice within today’s musical landscape. Contemporary music is often framed within a Western historical context, but in a world reckoning with colonial legacies, TIDE seeks to redefine its scope. Looking beyond a single tradition opens doors to new sonic discoveries—an exploration at the heart of TIDE’s work.
