On the island

Stay

Many artists, companies and makers stay on Terschelling for a few days. Team travel & stay of Oerol arranges, as much as possible according to everyone’s wishes, the accommodation for them. For example a hotel, guesthouse, cottage, apartment, group accommodation, sleeping ship or camping.

At the beginning of April, you will receive a link from the travel & accommodation team to the forms on which you can indicate what type of accommodation you need. All requests will then be processed and the travel & accommodation team will puzzle out who can stay where. At the beginning of May, you will receive a proposal for accommodation from this team, including the associated prices. The costs will then be included in the production budget that will be shared at the beginning of May (and is part of the contract).

Good to know: the island obviously has a maximum number of accommodations. We cannot move to another island or the mainland ;-). This means that we have limited capacity. That is why we assume that rooms will be shared. Although there are more and more requests for separate rooms, we unfortunately cannot meet these. This would simply mean that there will no longer be accommodation for everyone and/or that there will be fewer and fewer places left for visitors. Oerol only arranges sleeping places for cast and crew, not for friends or family.

Upon departure, the group will ensure that the accommodation is returned clean and tidy. If this is not the case, the deposit (which is deducted from the group’s first invoice) will not be refunded. This amount is used to pay a cleaner. For a number of accommodations, the deposit must be paid in cash on site. If this is applicable, this will be communicated to the group in advance.

Additional costs (such as food and drinks at hotels) are for your own account and will be settled on the spot. This cannot be charged to Oerol.

Important!

  • Pets are not allowed at all accommodations. Oerol is not responsible for unannounced pets.
  • The entire festival is accessible for a service, assistance or guide dog. The dog must wear a harness that clearly shows that it is a service dog.
  • At your playing location you play and at the camping you sleep. The other way around is unfortunately not possible, because it is not allowed to pitch your tent at a different location than the camping.
  • You will receive a confirmation email about your trip to and stay on Terschelling. This will contain the address of your accommodation, including additional information. Feel free to visit the Oerol office if you cannot find your accommodation or contact the team travel & accommodation.

Reception desk

There is a press, artist and guest desk at the harbour of West-Terschelling, where you can report upon arrival. Here you will receive your envelope with artist bands and meal vouchers. You will also receive any additional information about your accommodation. Press and professionals can also collect information here.

Transport on Terschelling

Cycling is still the most popular form of transport on the island. Bring your own bike or rent one on the island. Good to know: almost all Oerol locations are located in protected nature reserves (Natura 2000 and silence area). That is why it is important that cars are driven through these areas as little as possible. In many places this is also not allowed. Many Oerol locations are therefore not accessible by car, unless you have requested a special exemption in advance via the transport coordinator.

On Terschelling there are (night) buses. For current bus times see the website of Qbuzz .

  • From West-Terschelling (harbour) to Oosterend and back: line 1
  • From West-Terschelling (harbour) to Paal 8 and back: line 2
  • Night bus: from West-Terschelling to Oosterend and back: line 9

The ANWB provides its services on Terschelling via Garage Cupido on the business park in West. To use this, you must first call the ANWB (0800-0888). Please note that with the ANWB you are entitled to one towing per event. The ANWB will take you from Terschelling to the shore if you have not yet had your vehicle towed on the island.

For groups, makers and artists that fall under music, street theatre, spoken word, workshop or talks there is the possibility to use the internal Oerol transport (also called the BAK). Requesting these rides between the harbour, accommodation, crew catering and playing place is done via the production coordinator.
