Two characters in Houthakken contradict and complement each other. They make caricatures of each other – and ultimately of themselves. This is both the joke and the tragedy. With two seasoned actors, two armchairs, a brilliant text and a bowl of hot potato soup, the stage is set for a riveting exploration of the human condition.
After Oude Meesters, Houthakken is the second part in the series of monologues-for-two inspired by Thomas Bernhard’s prose work. Kris Van Trier is adapting and reinterpreting the play, alongside Vincent Van den Berg (‘t Barre Land).
