Oerol once again receives support from the Province of Fryslân for the period 2026–2028. A strong vote of confidence. It means we can continue building everything that makes Oerol so special: art rooted in the landscape, unforgettable encounters, and space for new voices and perspectives.
We thank the Province of Fryslân for their trust and appreciation of the role Oerol plays: as a festival, as a breeding ground for makers, and as a place where art and nature come together in a unique and meaningful way. This support enables us to further develop our vision in the years ahead, working with artists to make urgent themes and social issues visible in the landscape of Terschelling.
General Director Mikey Martins:
“Thanks to this structural support, we can continue to invest in makers and in work that confronts, inspires, and connects. Oerol remains a place where creativity takes root in the landscape, and where audiences open themselves to new perspectives. As the assessment committee aptly stated: ‘Oerol is a strong brand with a solid reputation. Its economic value, particularly for Terschelling, is substantial. On average, a festival visitor spends €940 per visit – a remarkable figure that, according to the committee, cannot be ignored.’
We congratulate all Frisian institutions that received a positive decision and stand in solidarity with those who unfortunately did not, including companies that have presented work at Oerol in recent years. These outcomes underscore the urgency of continuing to advocate for a strong cultural ecosystem: one that makes space for experimentation, growth, and collaboration.
