Places, people, shoulders, fleeting moments; they can all feel like home, for a moment or a lifetime. In her solo show Brabo Leone, NITE ensemble member Sarah Janneh creates a musical narrative of the various stages of her life in an effort to provide a more fluid, inclusive view of what it means to be home.
When do you ‘really’ belong somewhere? Sarah Janneh always felt stuck between two extremes: Black and white. Brabant and Sierra Leone. Singer and actress. Full of life and afraid to die. In her solo show, she embraces the richness of these dualities, rather than choosing one. Her quest takes her from the carnival in Brabant through the suburbs of Johannesburg eventually to her father’s home in Sierra Leone. Expect a typical NITE production; hyper-musical, close and urgent. Each song feels like a letter from a different chapter of life. The music evokes feelings of warmth, loss, growth and change.
