CONTRA exposes the tensions police officers face in their daily work — the inner conflict between power and service, ideals and reality. From racism and bureaucracy to the desire to make a difference. This gripping music theatre production confronts societal imperfections and is based on true stories, drawn from current investigative journalism and interviews with those directly involved.
During the Visual Language weekend (from the 20th to the 22th of June), some performances are provided with Dutch Sign Language (NGT) interpreters. See ticket times for more information.
Prior to the show, during the creative process, many people were spoken to. Experts, agents, journalists, whistleblowers, citizens and more. Extensive journalistic research was carried out by director Maarten Smit for a year and a half. Among other things, he spoke to “Control Alt Delete”. An independent organisation dedicated to fair and effective law enforcement and against ethnic profiling disproportionate violence.
