Een poëtisch zooitje

Gerrit is a chaotic guitarist, and Mahat is a chaotic poet. Together, they create a beautiful mess on stage — not so much a physical mess, but more of a brain-mess, you know?

Een poëtisch zooitje (A poetic mess) is a performance about growing older, growing up, and a phobia of football shirts, created by Mahat Arab and Gerrit van Balen. Mahat is a spoken word artist and programme maker from Arnhem. Much of his work explores themes of identity and awkwardness, while also finding the humour hidden in discomfort. Gerrit started his musical journey as a guitarist and went on to study jazz at the conservatoire in Utrecht. These days, he works as a composer, sound designer, and producer across various disciplines—as well as for his own projects. He prefers to create the kind of music he misses in the world and longs to hear himself.
