What happens when you remove the painting from its frame? How much does the frame shape the art — or vice versa? What if you take away the artwork and look only at the frame? Four performers construct ever-changing sculptural forms with their bodies inside massive frames placed on the island, exploring the relationship between artwork and frame.
Frames is a physical performance by Alexander Vantournhout and three fellow performers, exploring body-based art in its most distilled form. The performers create sculptural compositions within and around monumental frames, reminiscent of oversized picture frames. Bodies intertwine, hang, climb and shift — walking upside down, defying gravity and bending the rules of physical logic and imagination. The work can be viewed from all angles — from the front, the sides, and even from below. As perspectives tilt, each movement becomes a study in balance, where precision, physical control and trust are key.
