Ghazale Moqanaki and Saghar Khadem perform classical Iranian music rooted in improvisation and musical dialogue, played on traditional Iranian instruments. Blending works by legendary composers with contemporary pieces by Ghazale, this promises to be an unforgettable performance for fans of experimental music.
One of the Iranian instruments featured in this performance by Ghazale Moqanaki and Saghar Khadem is the santur — a trapezoid-shaped string instrument with a long and storied history. With its 72 strings played using delicate wooden hammers, the santur produces a uniquely resonant sound. Variations of the instrument can be found in India, Turkey and Greece, each with its own distinct style and technique. In this concert, the santur is accompanied by traditional Iranian percussion performed by Saghar.
