Lucie Lelaurain and Khorshid Dadbeh met at Codarts, the conservatoire in Rotterdam, and together they form Hamraaz. Their love of traditional Iranian music flows into contemporary compositions and improvisations. A magical mix of genres has already taken these multi-instrumentalists to venues such as the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, De Centrale in Ghent, and Le Dada in Toulouse.
Lucie Lelaurain grew up playing traditional Auvergne music, played the flute and later fell in love with the duduk, an Armenian flute. After her undergraduate studies at the conservatory in France, she lived in Istanbul for two years to immerse herself in the world of modal music. Now she studies at Codarts. Khorshid Dadbeh studied string instruments tar, setar and tanbour in Iran and graduated from Codarts. In the Netherlands, she began to promote Iranian culture and music and integrated her music into collaborations with other musicians. Inspiration for Hamraaz is traditional maqam music, honoring the various rich Arab cultures.
