Birds — washed ashore, run over, flown to their death… or perhaps still alive? In recent years, artists Sue Wiggers and Marijke Boon have been finding and photographing them. You’ll encounter them in the installation KASSIEWIJLE, which features ten oil pastel drawings by Sue, each accompanied by a short rhyming poem written, spoken — and sometimes sung — by Marijke. Live performances available on request.

Sue Wiggers lives and works on Terschelling. While walking along the beach, through the dunes or across the exposed tidal flats, she came across both recognisable and unidentifiable birds. Marijke Boon — performer and birdwatcher — often visits the island, though she lives on the mainland, in a house with windows. Sometimes she couldn’t help but take a photo after hearing a dull thud against the glass. Other times, she’d pull over because the small burst of colour on the tarmac was too striking to ignore. Both artists will be present at the installation during the festival.
