Each day, PolakVanBekkum work on a large-scale drawing of the grazing patterns of cows — and you’re invited to watch. Observe subtle shifts in movement and time, as new traces are added daily. The artwork is based on a fascinating scientific study from the early 1970s into cow grazing behaviour on the Groede.
In the previous century, researchers used a Koeklok — then an innovative analogue drawing device — to record the grazing behaviour of cows. Building on that historical study, PolakVanBekkum now explore the grazing patterns of livestock on the island today. Their observations unfold into a captivating artistic journey of ten sessions over ten days. Watch as the extra-extra-large drawing gradually fills and weathers under the influence of wind and rain.
Each day from 13:00 to 14:30, Ivar and Esther draw live on the Slaperdijk. Come and witness the landscape at its own slow pace, alongside the artists. On Monday, there is no live drawing. The drawing and the location can be visited during the visual arts opening hours.
Visual arts can be visited daily from Saturday 14 June between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
