Oerol Professionals | Rethinking artist development

Led by Simone Hogendijk — head of artistic development at Over het IJ and a long-time curator and connector in the Dutch arts scene — this session explores how we can support artistic practices in public space in times of change. Beginning with the Dutch context, we bring in international perspectives to collaboratively explore new models for cultural development and creative support.

In recent years, key structures for artist development in the Netherlands have diminished, creating space to reconsider how we support emerging artists. Curated by Simone Hogendijk, this session brings together international professionals to share knowledge and explore future-facing approaches. Simone’s longstanding connection to Oerol includes via het Atelier, a joint talent development programme with Over het IJ that supported a generation of artists working in and with public space.

This session is part of the IN SITU international professionals programme and will be held in English. We follow a bring-your-own-language approach: feel free to speak in Dutch or any other language — as long as someone in the room can help translate into English, you’re all set. Capacity is limited, so please book a free ticket to secure your spot. You can only book a ticket if you’re logged in as an Oerol Professional. You’ll need both your Oerol Professionals or Wij Maken Oerol festival wristband and your ticket to attend.

Afterwards, you’re welcome to join the shared lunch (separate ticket required), followed by the afternoon session where IN SITU and other European networks will share how they support artists working in public space. A separate free ticket is also required for this session.
