To what extent are we truly autonomous? Are we not always connected to others? This performance questions Western individualism and the yearning for autonomy. A red elastic fabric forms the heart of the choreography. A group of performers moves, becomes entangled, and leans into the fabric, each one relying on the others to maintain balance as a whole.
In Tussen Wij en Ik, the individual responsibility and safety of each performer are directly tied to the collective. Every player must trust the others and show the same level of solidarity — otherwise, it simply doesn’t work. The performance offers a model for a balanced society, and invites us to reflect on what that means for our autonomy and sense of connection.
