In the solo mime performance Victory Boogie Woogie, a lost young man grapples with the everyday—trying to tame it while searching for what lies beyond. What does it mean when connection feels out of reach, despair takes hold, yet all you know is to keep going?
In this performance—where the power lies in the minimal use of theatrical means—Charles Pas engages in a battle with a fully live soundscape composed of everyday ambient noises, the grandeur of cinematic sound design, and film composition. Sound and movement interact like a wild jazz improvisation, and at times it’s anyone’s guess who is leading whom.
Victory Boogie Woogie is about constantly trailing behind— a physical poem of body and sound confronting the relentless, merciless cycle of self-destruction. Are we doomed to escape ourselves, or is there still something left to save?
