Curious about how stimuli are processed by our body and brain? Then come to the Prikkeltalk. In this talk, Boukje Schweigman – artistic director of Schweigman& – guides you through the world of the senses and sensory processing, both from a physiological and a socio-cultural perspective. How do our brain and body process stimuli, and what is happening in today’s society that so many people are struggling with attention issues and burnout symptoms? By diving deep into this topic, she also touches on philosophical questions: does reality truly exist, or only our perception of it?
Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for a conversation with the audience to exchange experiences and insights.
In 2023, the Utrecht-based theatre company Schweigman& initiated Prikkel, an exhibition about neurodiversity and sensory processing that brought together art and science. During Oerol, Schweigman& continues the project with kindred creator Johannes Bellinkx in a series of sensory experiences that play with perception in Prikkel: Lichtgang & Kanteling and Prikkel: Binnenste Buiten, Lichtgang & Kanteling.
