The actors of Het Markttheater don centuries-old Italian masks and bring a street performance full of music, physical conflict and lazzi — the comic routines typical of commedia dell’arte. Based on interviews with entrepreneurs, civil servants and environmental organisations, the ensemble created a new story with writer Guido Scheepe about butcher Mr van Weleer. Can he survive in a world of zero-emission zones and AAA++++ labels? Or is his shop truly a thing of the past?
