Oerol Festival is built on collaboration with artists. We want to keep developing a festival that is sustainable, inclusive, and rooted in place. Your experience helps guide us.

2. SUSTAINABILITY

Less ecological impact, that is clear: less emissions, less disruption of nature on Terschelling. Sustainability is key for Oerol and that is why Oerol has developed our Ecological Compass. The Ecological Compass is about caring for the island and carefully considering what effect and what impact you want to have… or not have. We invite artists, suppliers and employees to think the same way.

3. PLURALITY

For us, plurality means paying attention to different perspectives in all aspects of how an organisation operates, and exploring how they can be applied. There can be attention to perspectives and power relations related to, for example, gender, age, skin colour, socio-economic context, and so on. We want to be a safe space with attention to the polyphony of our society. Partly for this reason, Oerol has drawn up a code of conduct, and shared it with its employees and stakeholders.

4. ROOTEDNESS

Oerol wants the festival to stay rooted, so that the festival, as well as the organisation itself, does justice to its origins and is genuinely connected to the place. The multifaceted nature of the island and everything that lives there are a source of inspiration.
