Dancing on de Deining: DJ collectives in the spotlight

Hellie | Voortouw

From house to disco to italo – these DJ collectives set the island in motion. They blend music with atmosphere, rhythm with space. Discover who’s playing at Oerol, and where their sound and story come together.

Shady Lady and her collective Jezabel

Shady Lady is an Australian DJ, performer, and founder of the queer collective Jezabel. She delivers an explosion of disco, italo, and cheesy 90s house – everything kitsch, fun, and over the top. Her motto? Don’t take yourself too seriously, enjoy to the fullest, and let yourself go completely.

With Jezabel, she created a queer space that seeks a unique middle ground. While many queer parties focus on hard techno or pop music, Jezabel offers an alternative: a blend of disco, house, funk, and underground – a return to the roots of queer dance music. Jezabel’s performances are not just musical but also performative, with a strong emphasis on creativity, theatre, and expressiveness. Through Jezabel, she aims to pay tribute to that history – while also creating a contemporary space for joy, freedom, and expression.

Brandaris Records: LENZ en EVE

Brandaris Records is the collective behind the very first house and techno parties on Terschelling. They provide a platform for young artists and get the island moving with music. During Oerol, DJs EVE and LENZ take over de Deining with sunny house, groovy techno, and above all: loads of danceable energy.

LENZ – born and raised on Terschelling – spins an upbeat mix of 90s techno and groove. EVE, hailing from Leeuwarden, brings UK garage, hard house, 90s house, and anything with vocals and summery vibes.

Brandaris Records taps into the growing popularity of house and techno among young people. The collective connects generations, creates space for local talent, and fits seamlessly into the creative and free-spirited atmosphere of Oerol.
Their mission? To get everyone dancing, to let people be themselves, and to leave everything behind on the dance floor.

Hellie and her initiative Voortouw

Hellie is no stranger to Oerol, and through her initiative Voortouw, she has been advocating for more women and non-binary people in the electronic music scene for years. Her radio show features mostly female DJs and producers – a space where new talent gets the spotlight.

What once started in the bathroom of the Supper Club has grown into performances at major festivals like Dekmantel, Down the Rabbit Hole, and Milkshake – and this summer, she returns to Oerol. Her sets are always danceable and full of good energy. Her favorite era? From 1977 to 1982: that’s where it all began according to Hellie. Expect a high-energy night with disco, funk, boogie, and house – from 70s and 80s classics to fresh, new sounds. She effortlessly blends it all into an irresistible groove that makes it impossible to stand still.

Lab Tarab, from Terschelling

Lab Tarab is a DJ collective with roots on Terschelling. What began as a shared love for Afro-disco and African music has grown into a fixture on the island. Inspired by the musical legacy of Oerol founder Joop Mulder and drawing influences from the SWANA region, they blend their selections into energetic, danceable sets.

Their name – Tarab, Arabic for ecstasy – reflects their mission to take people on a journey. Every set is different: joyful, unexpected, and sometimes a little edgy. What matters most is the atmosphere. “When everyone joins in – the crowd, the toilet attendant, and the people behind the bar – that’s when the magic happens.” This year, they’ll once again close out Oerol. And this time, they’re turning it up a notch for an explosion of euphoria.
