Tide

In TIDE, thirteen young people come together in a montage performance about the power of water. A force that cannot be stopped – that moves, remembers, collides, flows, heals, overwhelms and always finds a way. Through an interplay of text, movement and music, the performers search for a new stance in a chaotic world.

DEGASTEN creates theatre in Amsterdam with young performers and makers (aged 13 to 31). The development of performance, movement, imagination and collaboration lies at its core. The creation process of TIDE began with preliminary research at Oerol 2025. In October, thirteen performers started working with makers Sem Jonkers and Adanma Okoro, training, performing and exploring the theme – the power of water. This was followed by the making, rehearsing, further development and editing of what would become TIDE: a montage performance made up of different materials and individual scenes. At Oerol, they present a special site-specific edition: young people who feel that things must change. For anyone who dares to move without knowing exactly where it will end.

TIDE will be performed on Sunday 21 June; time and location will be announced at a later date.

TIDE is part of Werkplaats Oerol, a laboratory where both emerging and established makers are given the space—often in collaboration with partners—to develop location-inspired work.
