Whichever way you look at it, the meat industry remains a cruel business with far-reaching consequences for nature. Excessive nitrogen emissions have disastrous effects on ecosystems. There is a grim reality to animal feed production. Animals are kept in far too many numbers in far too small pens and sheds. Modernisation and innovation produce increasingly impressive stables, but is this really the solution for the future? Let’s make a case for lab-grown meat and efficiently equipped laboratories for meat production. Using mostly waste materials, including the skulls of a horse, a cow, and a pig, Exoot creates a transparent mechanical installation that forces you to think deeply about the relationship between humans, nature, and animals.
