The 100-year-old Magda celebrates her final hour accompanied by the music of fellow climate activist and composer Ryuichi Sakamoto. With her great-grandson in mind, she wonders: what cannot be taken with her into the grave? In this musical ode to all that lives, the imagination of those left behind is vividly sparked.
She can no longer do it: man the barricades, enter politics, or invest in sustainable energy. But Magda still has something to say. For if stories exist to pass on life’s lessons, which story is needed right now? With her descendants in mind and one more bottle to finish, Magda joins the audience and the eight cellists of Cello Octet Amsterdam in search of something that will outlive her. A musical death scene, witnessed from a circular grandstand on the beach, centered on the question: what do we leave behind? Featuring music by Ryuichi Sakamoto and a new text by Sophie van Winden.
