Planning to travel to Harlingen Haven by public transport during Oerol 2025? Please be aware of construction work at the stations in Groningen and Leeuwarden. This may affect your journey and the ability to bring a bicycle on the train. If you are coming by car, please take into account the road works on the Afsluitdijk.
We’re in close contact with NS and Arriva and will update this page as soon as new information becomes available.
Possible shorter trains to and from Leeuwarden
Since 1 March, renovation work has been taking place on the platform canopies at Leeuwarden station. As a result, some trains are shorter than usual, which means less space for bicycles. This might mean you can’t board your planned train from Zwolle and need to wait for the next one.
Our advice: allow extra time, check your route carefully, and plan ahead—so you don’t miss the ferry.
Train strike announced 16 and 17 June
NS employees have announced strikes in several regions. There will be a strike in the North of the Netherlands on Monday 16 June and a nationwide strike on Tuesday 17 June. As a result, fewer trains are likely to run. Therefore, check your travel planner in time and consider an alternative if necessary. For example, you can take the shuttle bus, carpool via Slinger, or rent a shared car.
Buses replace trains between Groningen and Zuidhorn
From Saturday 14 June to Saturday 12 July, no trains will run between Groningen and Zuidhorn. Replacement buses will be running instead, departing from the Stationsweg in front of Groningen station. Trains to and from Leeuwarden will start and end at Zuidhorn.
Please note: standard bicycles are not allowed on the replacement buses.
Afsluitdijk: take extra travel time into account
Coming by car? Then bear in mind that road work is taking place on the Afsluitdijk until the end of September. Leave on time, plan an alternative route if possible and consult the route planner.
