Mees van Rijswijk is often described as ‘sweet,’ ‘quiet,’ and ‘enthusiastic,’ a ‘friend to everyone,’ a ‘nice guy—but actually nice.’ Someone once even called him ‘harmless.’ And that’s where things went wrong. Of course, he’s not being taken seriously at all that way. Since then, Mees has had one wish: he wants to be furious.
Soft-activist Mees decides to stop denying his own anger. He asks angry people for tips: on one hand, to learn from them, and on the other, to discover if there is something within their rage that connects them. Perhaps world peace actually begins in a mosh pit, or in the collision of a knuckle and a jaw. AAAARGH is a musical spoken word performance about a friction-filled search for anger. It is not a manual, not therapy, and not a safe space. It isn’t even a word. AAAARGH is a radical attempt to remain soft, specifically through rock-hard resistance.
A first try-out version of AAAARGH will be showcased during Oerol, after which the performance will run all summer at Theaterfestival de Parade. This show is part of the Explore the North Hub. During Oerol, Explore the North presents work by talents affiliated with its production house at various locations across the island within this Hub. Explore the North is a production house and festival based at Podium Explore in Leeuwarden.
