After sunset, the world of Aisa Demeter is torn open. Her daughter is kidnapped by Aisa’s own shadow. In desperation, she demands answers and explores what drives her dark side. What will it take to find her daughter again? A modern myth about loss and the power of anger.
With multi-talented Anne-Fay Kops, Orkater presents a new story about anger that finds no outlet. About intuition that is too often reasoned away. In Aisa Demeter, two primal figures from different cultures are merged into a single character: Mama Aisa from Surinamese Winti culture and Demeter from Greek mythology. Where Demeter compels action, Mama Aisa invites acceptance. Aisa Demeter moves between these two forces, searching for what her anger is actually trying to say. Doing everything it takes to get her child back before sunrise.
Aisa Demeter sways from Caribbean samples and deep basslines to grand ballads full of exuberant vocals and piano melodies. Anne-Fay Kops creates an ancestral echo that answers contemporary questions.
This performance of Aisa Demeter has been specially adapted to suit the unique setting of the Bostheater.
