Toads sing in choruses; just like humans, they can synchronise with an external rhythm. Among natterjack toads, the males call out while the females decide which song is the finest. Singing as beautifully as possible within a choir – is that music? With the performance Calling Songs – preceded by a short audio walk – the musicians of Zwerm invite you to answer that very question.
Carried by a specially designed sound and light installation, this performance invites you to listen to a chorus of natterjack toads. And if the toads remain silent for an evening, you listen to the birds and the wind, always accompanied by the musicians. Marvel at a world far older than yourself.
As previously announced, we let nature take the lead when choosing the location for this performance. The venue has now been decided based on where the natterjack toads are most likely to be found: the starting point for the audience will be the Natuurschuur Lies. Please note: the start time has changed from 21:30 to 22:00, also to increase the chances of hearing the toads.
