Sixty per cent of all birds on Earth are chickens: time to start a conversation! Behind this often-mocked bird lies an immensely rich and intelligent world. What do we have in common, as chicks among ourselves? After many hours spent among the chickens and research in collaboration with the Vakbond voor Dieren, Lindertje Mans shares her insights in this musical performance.
Together with Lindertje, the audience imagines what it is like to be a chicken and practises different clucking patterns. This is how we learn to say: “I have laid an egg.” After an interactive workshop section, the performance transforms into a captivating clucking opera in which Lindertje slowly turns into a chicken. All set to enchanting compositions created with composer Stephanie Pan, combining chicken sounds, electronic rhythms and moving synthesizers. Expect tools for a conversation from human to chicken, humour, and a compelling story about femininity, the egg and a plea for radical empathy. An omelette will never taste the same again!
