Info
Along trade routes and maritime silk roads, not only people and goods travelled from continent to continent, but also plants, animals and micro-organisms. How does this history of exchange connect the island of Terschelling to the rest of the world? Kees Foekema in conversation with historian Michael Pye and artist Marjolijn Boterenbrood about the sea as a historical space of movement.
The Wadden Sea is connected to seas all over the world. In the waters around Terschelling, marine life is rich with species that have travelled from afar: the Black Sea, the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico. The sea is changing, marine life migrates and does not adhere to human borders. In the installation Marine Migrants, Marjolijn Boterenbrood makes this hidden life visible. Two public talks take place alongside the work: an Ebb Talk and a Flood Talk. The Ebb Talk with Boterenbrood and historian and writer Michael Pye focuses on the rich history of migration and exchange across the sea, moderated by Kees Foekema.
Dates and times will be announced at a later date.
