In a musical solo, Meral Polat creates the space to shape motherhood on her own terms. She unravels what it means to her, both as an artist and as a ritual. In the arts, death has been turned into literature and the act of dying depicted endlessly, yet the act of bringing a child into the world hardly plays a role on stage. Giving life still belongs to the intimate domain—the realm where mothers reside and artists stay far away. Meanwhile, the choice to have children (or not) and the act of caring for them is an existential experience for many. Rated 5 stars by De Volkskrant.
