Johannes Is Zijn Naam creates Dutch-language dream pop, with Johannes as a fragile crooner, singing and dancing amidst rhythm boxes and synths. You might know him from Johnny Will Be King; he brings to mind Spinvis, is a cross between David Lynch and Tien Om Te Zien, and his name really is Johannes.
Johannes Is Zijn Naam is the solo project of Johannes Verschaeve, the former frontman of The Van Jets. He creates poetic, Dutch-language music revolving around dark playfulness, rhythm boxes, and primitive synths. Live, Johannes brings a unique amalgam of music, performance, atmosphere, and word. With Contact, his second album, the lonely character from his debut takes a step out of his cocoon, towards the outside world, towards… contact.
