Info
Muslim Shaggan is a breathtaking Pakistani singer from Lahore, carrying a 500-year-old musical family tradition. Following a series of successful debut performances in the United Kingdom, he is now touring the European continent. He is joined by Asher Shehzad on tabla and his producer Daniyal Ahmed on flute, while Shaggan accompanies himself on the harmonium.
Shaggan is the latest addition to Honiunhoni’s growing roster of traditional and classical artists from Pakistan (which also includes world music star Ustad Noor Bakhsh). Shaggan’s vocals are technically refined, yet profoundly tender. His versatile musicality stems from a unique convergence of histories. He is a descendant of Bhai Mardana (1459–1534), the Muslim musician and companion of Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. This lineage of Rababi musicians eventually adopted the Gwalior style of Hindustani vocal music. Muslim was trained by one of its greatest practitioners: his grandfather, Ustad Ghulam Hassan Shaggan.
