Alexander Moto can’t sleep; he feels like he’s been sentenced to a lifelong sentence of bickering with the Sandman. And when you don’t sleep, you get caught in a hazy web of overthinking that—ironically—keeps you awake. During a residency on Terschelling, Moto uses the arts to try and settle his feud with the Sandman. Moving from dissociation to dreaming.

Sleep is the softest and most accessible form of self-care in the animal kingdom. Yet, for his entire young adult life, Moto has struggled to master it. As a result, he only half-processes his experiences, living life on autopilot. After 27 years, Moto is tired of watching his life fly by. During two residencies on Terschelling, he explores whether his favorite forms of therapy—writing and music—can help him build a friendship with his nightly rest. During the festival, this culminates in a first preview of a performance-in-progress, where various elements of this process converge through diverse disciplines.

Alexander Moto is part of Werkplaats Oerol, a space where both emerging and established makers are given the room to develop location-inspired work, often in collaboration with partners. During the festival, several of these makers explicitly invite the audience to become part of their work-in-development. Performance dates and times will be announced at a later date.
