How do the children of Terschelling view the festival that floods their island every June for ten days with street theatre, music, visual art and hordes of festivalgoers? Island children capture their perspective on Oerol in art, guided by cameraman Aart Kramer and Nienke Zorgdrager. Their creations can be seen in the Tonnenloods. Well worth a look!
Across five workshops, the children are introduced to a fragment from one of Aart Kramer’s documentaries and film footage of Oerol. These stories form the inspiration for their own creations. This can take any form – from a painting to a sculpture, or perhaps something entirely different.
Oerol through Children’s Eyes is part of a project celebrating the 45th anniversary of Oerol. To mark this special occasion, ten short documentaries are being made, bringing together the stories of islanders and Oerol makers from the very beginning. With a rich archive and a wealth of memories, it promises to be a feast of recognition. The complete series will be shown during Oerol 2026. Makers Hanneke Bramer and Irina Filcer have also previously contributed to the project.
