Following the in-depth discussions during the morning programme at the Maritiem Instituut Willem Barentz, we will head out into the field together this afternoon to put theory into practice. During this session, we will visit the locations of the first two makers selected for the multi-year Inclusive Theatre project. It is a unique opportunity to experience the artistic translation of disability-led theatre up close and to engage with the makers in the very environment where their work is being created.

Please note: to join this afternoon programme you need to have tickets for the two work-in-progress moments. More info below.

We will gather at 14:30 at the Stuifkuil on the Midslander Longway, the performance location for Dominique Stevens. After experiencing her work, we will remain on-site for an informal aftertalk led by Antsje van der Zee (Creative Producer, Oerol Werkplaats). Following this, we will travel together to the Oude Tennisbaan in Midsland Noord, the location for Toni Kritzer. Here, too, we will conclude the presentation with an aftertalk led by Antsje, reflecting on the creative process and the interaction with the landscape.

About the Inclusive Theatre project
Over a period of three years, Oerol Festival is collaborating with the Bartiméus Fonds on a programme to realise a major site-specific theatre production for Oerol 2027—created by theatre-makers both with and without disabilities. In 2025, an open call was launched, from which the proposals by Dominique Stevens and Toni Kritzer were selected. Both makers have been on residency with their teams on Terschelling this spring to explore how the island influences their work. During this festival, they will present a first preview of their work in progress.

Leeglopen | Dominique Stevens / Theater de Werkplaats
What does it feel like when your energy slowly fades and emptiness takes over? Leeglopen (Draining) is a performance in development about the loss of energy, endurance, and the impact of being capable of less and less. The work investigates how this “draining” can be made tangible through sand, language, and extreme slowness. It is about the loss of energy, while the sand and sea continue to move, undisturbed.

we read our pain like coordinates | Toni Kritzer
What does it feel like to be a polluted river, or a deforested wood? Like bodies with chronic pain? At the intersection of ecology and disability justice, we wander through damaged landscapes. In an attempt at interspecies empathy, this performative exploration maps wounded ecologies onto our own wounded bodies. How can we care for our aching bodies and minds in an era of ecological collapse?

Important: Reserve your own tickets
For this afternoon programme, you must reserve your own tickets for both separate presentations via the regular programme pages. Please ensure you are logged in as an Oerol Professional; if a performance appears to be ‘Sold Out’, the tickets reserved for professionals will only become visible once you have logged in:

First the discussion, then the experience. In the morning, we explore the grey area ‘between specificity and standard’ at our Professionals Hub in the Maritiem Instituut Willem Barentsz, bringing those insights to life in the landscape later that afternoon. Complete your day and reserve your spot for the morning session here.

We operate a ‘bring-your-own-language’ approach in Dutch and English. Feel free to speak the language you feel most comfortable in – there will always be someone present to assist with translation if necessary.

Accessibility info

Professionals attending the morning session and lunch will depart together by bicycle from the MIWB at approximately 14:00. We will also travel between the two locations by bike (approx. 1 km via paved cycle paths). If cycling is not an option for you, please contact toegankelijkheid@oerol.nl in good time for a suitable solution.

Please note: The route to the Stuifkuil (show location Dominique Stevens) involves approximately 100 metres of unpaved sand from the bicycle parking area.
