Info
Raaklijn is a multi-year project centred on the constantly shifting boundary between Oerol locations and the protected nature of Terschelling. We call this boundary the Raaklijn. Just before the festival, the sheep from organic sheep farm De Zeekraal are shorn. Using this sheep’s wool, architect and artist Rain Wu creates a three-dimensional map of the island, in which the 2026 Raaklijn becomes visible.
Every year during Oerol, an invisible line emerges across the entire island, at the edge of the festival and the island’s protected nature. We call this ever-shifting boundary the Raaklijn. It is a line not intended to divide, but to entwine both sides. You might remember: In Oerol 2024, Rita Hoofwijk invited visitors to embody the Raaklijn themselves. In 2025, it was the bodies of Tumbleweed’s dancers that made the boundary visible.
The artist for this edition is Taiwanese artist Rain Wu. Her work is conceptually driven and manifests in various forms and scales, from drawings and sculptures to food performances and architectural installations. She works with the transience of perishable materials to spark conversations about our diverse relationships with nature.
We are creating Raaklijn in collaboration with SoAP – Space oriented Artistic Practice, an initiative by Rita Hoofwijk.
Visual arts can be visited daily from Saturday 13 June between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM.
