SILENCE

In SILENCE, contemporary dance and live handpan music meet in an intercultural collaboration between India and the Netherlands. Dancer Froukje Zijlstra and musician Rishiraj Kulkarni explore what silence can be: not just the absence of sound, but also a space for attention, connection and imagination.

SILENCE consists of four parts: Stillness, Growth, Unknown, and Process. Each section highlights a different dimension of silence and demonstrates how it can shift: from stillness to tension, discovery, and change. Through the use of physical objects, rhythmic structures, and improvisation, a dynamic interplay between dance and music emerges. The handpan provides a melodic foundation to which movement reacts, slows down, or conversely, breaks free. The open setting of the performance allows room for spontaneous interaction with the surroundings and the audience, giving every performance its own unique character.
