Bacteria, mud, insects, wind, and passing trains form the soundscape of Sunjoo Lee’s electricity-generating garden. In collaboration with Korhan Erel, Sunjoo and Ko de Beer created the audiovisual performance Sonified Garden 2.0: a work that invites you to listen to energy as something living, vibrant, and interconnected.
On a sunny summer day, Korhan Erel and Sunjoo Lee gathered in Sunjoo’s Electric Garden and listened intently to the sounds: the murmur of electricity generated by bacteria, the bubbling of gases from the mud, the buzz of flies, the fresh breeze blowing through the willows, and the occasional rush of passing trains. This swirling soundscape, the lush plants, and the vibrant ecosystem, fermenting with diverse energies, inspired the two artists to create the audiovisual performance Sonified Garden. It invites you to view energy through a different lens; after all, Sunjoo’s garden has far more to offer than just its electrical output.
