How do we find hope when the horizon disappears? In the lead-up to the new performance TROOST (2027), Company Marte Boneschansker and Female Economy | Adelheid Roosen settle on Terschelling for an intimate investigation into solace and landscape. During their residency, they invite you into their laboratory of softness, touch, and surrender—a first step toward a collective sanctuary.
When a baby cries, we pick them up. We rock, soothe, and offer a breast or a shoulder. But where is that cradle once we are grown? Who holds us when the world falters? Marte and Adelheid investigate the healing relationship between humans and the “more-than-human.” How do we cope with the loss of landscape? What happens when we seek safety in a stranger? How do we comfort the trees, and how do they comfort us? Through physical experiments set to the music of OTION, Boneschansker and Roosen create space for solace.
TROOST – an investigationserves as the preparation for the large-scale, sensory experience TROOST, set to premiere in 2027. This year, Marte Boneschansker is undertaking two residencies on Terschelling, speaking with various islanders about loss and solace. During the festival, you too can become part of this search for a new, shared sanctuary for our grief and our hope.
TROOST – an investigation is part of Werkplaats Oerol, a laboratory where both emerging and established makers are given the space—often in collaboration with partners—to develop location-inspired work. During the festival, several of these makers explicitly invite the audience to become part of their work-in-progress.
