We Sleep Among Demons is a musical performance about daring to look your greatest fears in the eye. Inspired by Persian mythology and accompanied by dreamy, narrative music, Amir Vahidi liberates himself from the compulsions of the past. Letting go is also a form of harvesting.
In this musical ritual, Amir Vahidi confronts his inner demons. The demonic voice of a mother telling him he isn’t allowed to be angry? Banished. The voice of the racist bouncer telling him he doesn’t belong in the club? Sent away. His white artist collective that refuses to take his artistic voice seriously? Smoked out. But what do you do with your own voice when it tears you down at every opportunity and tries to cut you off at the ankles? It’s about finding trust in vulnerability, even when being hurt is a certainty—because there simply is no other option.
