De keuken en het tij

During Oerol, De keuken en het tij (the kitchen and the tide) is situated on the Noordsvaarder and will gradually be submerged by high tide. This installation portrays a future life below sea level, where our struggle against natural forces takes centre stage. The looming sea level rise starkly contrasts with our current standard of living, which we are determined to preserve at all costs. It highlights how we continually ignore visible and invisible threats.

In an ongoing performance, artist Bart Eysink Smeets takes up residency in a kitchen on het Groene Strand, carrying on even as the tide rises around him. Smeets won the Symbio Art Prize 2024 with De keuken en het tij.

This Expedition can be visited daily from June 8th, between 11:00 and 17:00.
