Info
In this one-man performance, master storyteller Thomas Dudkiewicz travels through the subconscious of the universe. He loses his way in a hall of mirrors, where every encounter leads him back to himself. Following Oerol-hits Bedtime Stories, Bobby Baxter, and The Last Chapters, he now presents this experimental, immersive performance that takes place before a (or THE) story begins.
The story before it becomes a story has an ethereal structure, filled with cryptic narrators, fickle guides, and philosophical dead ends. As Thomas encounters his alter egos, he finds himself asking: why does he tell stories? How is meaning created? And what happens when we realise there might be no answer? Inspired by The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Being John Malkovich, and the writer Alan Watts, Oerol figurehead Thomas embarks on a journey preceding the story, in search of answers.
This is not the beginning.
What do you need to know? Before we start?
We don’t know why.
We can guess, but we don’t know. We never will.
We can choose. And be satisfied with an answer. But we never know.
The elusive Why. From: Before The Story Starts
